The Montana Dinosaur Center is dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the science of paleontology through hands-on discovery, active research, and meaningful educational experiences. Our work is grounded in a simple belief: learning is most powerful when it’s real, tangible, and shared.

What We Do

We invite the public into the world of scientific exploration. Our programs are built around authentic field sites, active research, and close collaboration with trained staff and researchers. Visitors don’t just observe; they participate. From uncovering fossils in the field to learning what happens in the prep lab, each experience reflects our commitment to science that is accessible, immersive, and honest.

Our Mission

Our purpose is threefold:

  1. Provide hands-on educational experiences rooted in real research environments.
  2. Promote and support scientific research and the publication of new knowledge.
  3. Collect, preserve, research, and interpret items that reflect the physical and cultural history of the world, sharing them for public benefit and scientific advancement.

This mission guides every program, exhibit, and research initiative at the Center.

Our Approach

We emphasize transparency in science, respect for landowners and researchers, and robust stewardship of fossil resources. Our policies reflect that commitment, from confidentiality expectations regarding landowner relationships and site protection to professional standards for fieldwork, research settings, and public engagement.

Our Team

The Montana Dinosaur Center is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by year-round and seasonal staff who facilitate research, guide public digs, and maintain museum operations. Staff members receive training in visitor-centered education, field techniques, and collections care.

Our Commitment to Stewardship

The Center is a nonprofit organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3), committed to preserving scientific and cultural heritage for future generations. We follow strict ethics and collections standards, including the prohibition of private ownership or sale of significant specimens.

Looking Forward

We continue to grow our programs, research capacity, and museum spaces in service of our mission. Each visitor, student, researcher, donor, and volunteer contributes to the ongoing story of discovery happening here in the Two Medicine region.

We invite you to explore with us.
